Dispensing System
Alliance Automation, LLC was asked by a customer to design and build a robot system that would consistently apply a special anti-squeak lubricating fluid onto the back side of an automotive door panel. The fluid provides lubrication to friction points, preventing any rubbing or "squeaking” noise. This is especially important with new EV vehicles which have less cabin noise. The original solution for this issue was for an operator to hand place felt pads on the backside of the panel.
Requirements for this robot system included: no guarding, two (2) stations, small footprint, fluid dryers and UV light verification.
The Alliance Automation team went to work and designed a robot system shown below.
This system utilized a single Universal Robot UR10e robot with a custom fluid sprayer. The spraying head has adjustments for volume and atomization levels.
Two stations allowed for the operator to load and unload parts while the robot worked on the opposite station, reducing cycle time.
RFID tags are used on each fixture so the robot system automatically calls up the correct program for the part.
After the robot is done applying the lubrication, hot air blowers are used to dry the fluid. A UV light is then turned on giving the operator a visual to know if the material was applied correctly.
Alliance Automation is a CSI (Certified System Integrator) for Universal Robots and has completed a number of other collaborative robot systems for dispensing.
This is an example of another successful project by Alliance Automation.
